Introduction

As part of the new refurbishment program of the prominent Green Dragon Hotel in Hereford; McKelvie Solutions were commissioned, as a local company, to provide technical IT support to replace their legacy IT network infrastructure, CCTV and hotel WiFi.

Network Challenge

The Green Dragon Hotel in Hereford is a grade II listed building with 83 bedrooms over 3 floors. McKelvie Solutions were tasked to provide WiFi, CCTV and network connectivity sympathetically to the buildings historic significance, to deliver an IT infrastructure for IP CCTV, hotel WiFi, voice and data to support leisure and business communities.

Hotel Network Solution

Twenty seven WiFi access points give business and leisure customers internet connectivity in meeting-points and bedrooms. Giving excellent hotel Wi-Fi coverage and capacity for guest WiFi and staff WiFi. All WiFi guest users are logged and have bandwidth and time limitations. The hotel WiFi controller monitors the network and McKelvie Solutions can provide remote technical support as the WiFi controller is cloud enabled.

An IP High Definition CCTV solution for internal and external hotel CCTV gives staff confidence that there is excellent hotel CCTV for their safety and guests. Avigilon ACC6 CCTV software was chosen as of the friendly user interface to view and search for recorded video. Hotel management are able to view hotel CCTV from their smartphones, using the hotel WiFi, to aid in the management of the hotel.

New managed Ethernet switches installed throughout the hotel and router maintain a reliable and high availability network. Hotel security and network efficiency is maintained by segregating traffic by type. VLAN's and firewall policies manage hotel network traffic: VoIP, CCTV, hotel data network and guest WiFi. All hotel IT network hardware is monitored and can be configured remotely via the cloud.

The Green Dragon Hotel in Hereford now has a network solution for security, voice, data and guest WiFi. Establishing the Green Dragon Hotel as the go to place for business and leisure in the heart of Herefordshire.
